Rainham station is in the London Borough of Havering, in Zone 6. The station dates back to 1854 and is only 12 miles from London city centre, with trains heading west to Fenchurch Street and east to Shoeburyness in Essex - both journeys take approximately half an hour. The station is referred to as Rainham (Essex) to avoid confusion with Rainham in Kent. Located on Ferry Lane, the track is surrounded by industrial works and Rainham Creek, the local industrial river. A leafy commuter town on the edge of east London, Rainham is a mostly residential area and has been since it became part of Greater London in 1965. Originally a small village, today the town is undergoing significant regeneration due to the involvement of the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation. The town centre is largely commercial with a retail area along Upminster Road South and Broadway, a short walk from the station.

Station details & facilities

Rainham's main entrance is off Ferry Lane, and has a small, staffed ticket hall with a ticket machine outside. This entrance leads onto platform 1 (towards Grays and Pitsea), where you'll find the station toilets. A footbridge connects to platform 2 (towards London), and there's also direct street-level access from Ferry Lane - look for an alley just past the level crossing. There is a bike rack just outside the main entrance, and a small additional one on platform 1.
