Built in the summer of 1850, North Berwick has seen its fair share of mixed fortunes over the years. Once regarded as a haven for the wealthy, North Berwick was often frequented in the mid-1800s by VIPs of the day, including Albert Edward - the future King Edward VII. Since then, the station has seen an expansion in the 1890s to cope with the enormity of traffic, drastic cuts to services in the 1970s and, in 1982, its eventual closure. Today the single-platform station runs hourly services to Scotland's main transport hub - Edinburgh, with some continuing beyond onto Glasgow Central. Located close to the seafront, North Berwick looks out towards Scotland's famous Islands of the Forth - The Lamb, Craigleith, Fidra and Bass Rock - which are home to a wide array of animal species, from rare seabirds to puffins and gannets.

While the station is unmanned, a help point located in the main station building can assist with any service queries. The small waiting room houses a ticket machine alongside the automatic doors which grant access to the station. North Berwick's single platform - upon which you'll find an additional ticket machine, help point, seating and a bike store - is easy to navigate, and can also be accessed via a pathway on the far end of the platform.
