More about the Vale of Rheidol Railway

The Vale of Rheidol Railway was built in 1902 and provided a link between Aberystwyth’s harbour and the lead mines in the Rheidol Valley. It was also the last steam railway operating as part of the national rail network until 1989.

All trains start from Aberystwyth, running through a number of beautiful stations along the way including Capal Bangor, Aberffrwd, Llanbadarn, Glanyrafon and Rheidol Falls, some of which you have to request to stop at – but are well worth the visit. The final stop before heading back to Aberystwyth is Devil’s Bridge, where you can explore the famous Devil’s Bridge Waterfalls.

The Vale of Rheidol Railway also offers special event trains throughout the year, as well as dining experiences and the chance to drive one of their steam locomotives.
