Trains to the Stadium of Light
If you're taking the train to The Stadium of Light, you need a ticket to Sunderland station. The stadium is on the north bank of the River Wear, a fifteen-minute walk from the station. Sunderland has regular services from Newcastle, as well as five trains a day from London Kings Cross via York. The Stadium of Light also has its own Metro station, on the Green Line between Newcastle Airport and South Hylton. It's a ten-minute walk from the stadium.

About the Stadium of Light
With its location on the banks of the River Wear, the Stadium of Light has one of the most dramatic settings of any in the country, and it has been a fitting home for Sunderland AFC since the club moved to it in 1997. With a capacity of 49,000, it is not only the venue for the football club's home games, but also a popular venue for large-scale concerts.
Unless Sunderland AFC is a playing big club or local rival Newcastle United, most games do not sell out - so it is relatively easy to get hold of a ticket for matches at the Stadium of Light. Your best bet is to visit the club's website or call the ticket office a few weeks in advance. Ticket prices depend on the category of game, starting at £25 for the lowest-category match and rising to £40 and above for high-demand fixtures.
Visitors can also to take a tour of the stadium. It lasts about an hour and will take you to the dressing room, out to the pitch, into the dugouts and also into the players' lounge. The tour runs every day of the week, except when Sunderland have a home game, and costs £10.
