Trains to the East Anglian Railway Museum
Conveniently located at Chappel and Wakes Colne station, the East Anglian Railway Museum is easy to reach by train. Chappel and Wakes Colne is served by Greater Anglia services from Sudbury and Marks Tey, which call at Platform 1. Platforms 2 and 3 are used by the Railway Museum, so you won’t even have to leave the station to begin exploring. If you’re travelling from London, hop on a train from Liverpool Street to Marks Tey, before changing onto a connecting service to Chappel and Wakes Colne.

The wonderfully restored Goods Shed is jam-packed with classic memorabilia, while the Codebreaker escape room makes for an interactive and fun collaborative experience.

Occupying Platforms 2 and 3 of Chappel and Wakes Colne station, the Museum is a top day out for railway enthusiasts, families, and – well – just about anyone! The Heritage Centre and Goods Shed house interesting memorabilia from the railway age, showing how we progressed from steam locomotives to the railway network we know today. You’ll see the Museum’s impressive collection of vintage locomotives and carriages in the Restoration Shed – be sure to chat with the enthusiastic volunteers, they don’t bite!
The Museum even has its own escape room, the Codebreaker Experience, where you’ll work together using cryptic clues to solve a mystery. And if you’re feeling peckish, head to the Platform 2 Café for a bite to eat.
