Station details & facilities

There really is nowhere else quite like the British Museum. Where else in the world would you get to see the hieroglyph-decoding Rosetta Stone, Egyptian mummies and sculptures from the Parthenon? With a collection spanning archaeology, anthropology, science, and visual arts, the British Museum is arguably the world's premier collection of cultural and historic artefacts, boasting superb permanent exhibitions and fascinating temporary shows all year round. Founded in 1753, the British Museum has expanded over time and continues to do so in the 21st century. In 2000 it added the Great Court, a light and airy glass-covered courtyard, and in 2014 it unveiled the World Conservation and Exhibitions Centre - a state-of-the-art facility for research, storage, education and exhibitions.

The collection's highlights are almost too numerous to mention, but don't miss the Egypt galleries, which have the best collection of Egyptian artefacts in the world outside of Egypt itself. And collections from the classical world include items from the Mausoleum of Halikarnassus and the Temple of Artemis from Ephesus, two of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. When sore feet strike - trust us, you'll do a lot of walking - there are cafes and a good restaurant back in the central Great Court
