About Audley End House

Of course the first thing you'll want to see when you arrive at Audley End House is the house itself, so head inside and enjoy what was one of the largest and most opulent houses in Jacobean England. Make your way through the Great Hall, and take in the beautiful state apartments and libraries, as well as the house's stunning gothic-style chapel.

Whatever you do, do not leave without a peek at one the most important surviving 18th-century beds in the country, the lavish state bed, commissioned for King George III's visit in 1794.

Next up, it's time to take a please-touch wander through the lives of the children who once lived in the house, both upstairs and downstairs, with a visit to the nursery and, just down the hall, the coal gallery. The nursery has been painstakingly restored with rocking horse and dolls' houses to the exact state it would have been in when the Victorian Braybrookes family children played there.

Finally, head outside to the beautiful Audley End House Gardens, the work of several influential 18th-century designers, for a wander across the quaint bridge over the River Cam below and though the beautiful garden buildings.
