The historic Beeston station first opened in 1839, and was the first in Nottingham. Travellers still get a feeling for its 19th century origins today, as they step down from the train onto canopied platforms in front of solid, white brick station buildings that date back to 1847. Over 150 years on, Beeston remains an important stop on the Cross Country Line, with regular northbound services to Lincoln and Nottingham, and southbound services to London St Pancras International, Birmingham New Street, Leicester and Derby.
The town centre and the pedestrianised shopping precinct along High Road, with big-name stores, restaurants and independent shops, is a ten-minute walk north from the station along Station Road. Beyond the centre is the main campus of the University of Nottingham, known as University Park, one of the largest in the country and home to over 40,000 students during term time. There’s green space here too, with the River Trent and Attenborough wetlands just south of the station.
