Wimbledon – The Championships
Summer’s coming, and we all know what that means… The air will be filled with the heavenly smell of strawberries and cream, and the familiar thwack of Serena Williams hitting another perfectly timed backhand. Roland Garros got us in the zone and now we’re gearing up for another season of racket-based fun in London’s South West. Got your ticket? We’ve covered the rest…
When is Wimbledon 2018?
Wimbledon bounced into existence way back in 1877, making it the world’s oldest tennis tournament. This year Wimbledon will fill our screens from Monday 2nd to Sunday 15th July. That means there might still be time to bag a cheap Advance train ticket to get you there. Use our Price Prediction tool on our app and we’ll help you find the cheapest tickets.
Where is Wimbledon held?
Wimbledon – AKA The Championships – is held in Wimbledon (surprisingly enough) at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
How do you get to Wimbledon?
The best way to get to Wimbledon is by train or tram, as you’ll avoid heavy traffic jams. The closest station to the court is Southfields, on the District Line. And if you’re getting the train to London, you can always add a travelcard onto your booking. If you’re not a fan of the tube, you might prefer to go direct to Wimbledon overground station and walk for 30 minutes.
Where to watch Wimbledon for free
It can be tricky to get your hands on tickets for centre court, as it normally involves queueing, queueing and (you guessed it), more queueing. If you're planning to brave the long lines, make sure you read up on the official Wimbledon Queueing Code of Conduct. If not, you may want to find somewhere equally Wimbledon-themed, but with slightly cheaper price tags for strawberries and cream. There are plenty of places in London with big screens tuned into the tennis.
Merchant Square – Head to the grassy banks at London Paddington and watch every volley on the big screen.
Cardinal Place – Get high-rise views and Wimbledon vibes at this rooftop screening in Victoria.
Wherever you’re going to watch the tennis, book your tickets with us and use our app to keep your trip running smoothly, with live times and platform info.
