Great North Museum
Natural history lovers will delight in a visit to the Great North Museum, where they can investigate a range of animal-themed displays as well as mummies from Ancient Egypt and even an interactive model of Hadrian’s Wall. The museum also features a planetarium for star-struck visitors and live animal tanks containing creatures such as snakes, scorpions and lizards! Running until May 2016 is an immersive exhibit on Polar Explorers aimed at families with younger children; if your children fancy themselves as a daring adventurer then there’s no better place to bring them! There is always of course the Beamish Museum as well.

Tours of St. James’ Park are available using cutting edge technology utilising audio and visual effects throughout the visit. The Seven Stories Centre

The Seven Stories centre opened a decade ago offering a great day out for families wishing to explore the amazing world of children’s literature. The name comes from the saying that there are only seven stories in the world, but a thousand ways of telling them. These thousand ways are showcased in a wide range of exhibits, activities and special events. The place even has its own theatre using dress-ups and drama to bring the stories’ magic to life.

It’s not been considered new since mediaeval times, but these days the combined attraction encompassing the Castle Keep and Black Gate is very popular with visitors. Over the years, it’s been a royal fortress, border stronghold, gruesome dungeon and even a slum, all of which makes this a captivating place for all the family.
