Our mission to make train travel easy
Train travel just got easier…
We’re always championing simpler rail travel, so when today, Rail Delivery Group (RDG) revealed a radical overhaul of current UK train fares by testing the removal of complicated train ticketing rules, it was music to our ears.
The RDG plans* set out measures to make ticket machines more user-friendly and to provide clear information around routes and fares so that you can make informed travel choices.
Clare Gilmartin, Trainline CEO, shares our mission to make train travel simple:
“At Trainline, our mission has always been to make train travel easy and transparent for travellers in the UK and Europe.
As such, we welcome the RDG’s plan to simplify the UK rail fare system and will continue to work with the RDG as a valued partner, with the rail industry as a whole and with the Government to make rail travel easier still with the roll out of UK-wide mobile ticketing by the end of 2018.”
What does it mean for you?
The RDG tests are taking place on specific routes**. Here’s what you can expect:
- Best value tickets: The introduction of through-fares which will give the best end-to-end journey value.
- Simple journeys: Easier journey planning with the ability to mix and match with the best fares for your outbound and inbound journeys.
- Tidy ticketing: A big tidy up of available train routes, with older, less relevant route options no longer displayed by ticket machines.
What are we doing?
Along with this great news, we’ll continue the charge for making things as easy as possible for travellers.
We’re currently working on the mobile ticketing in the UK, mobile tickets can save time and of course wallet-space.
We’re also constantly developing nifty features for our app to help you travel in comfort, such as our in-app station guides and BusyBot, which helps you to find carriages with empty seats. Or PriceBot which helps you to find the best price available on your chosen date of travel.
