Everything you need to know about the devilish mum and son duo before Mary & George hits Sky in 2024.

What is being filmed at Old Hunstanton?

If you happened to wander the dunes of Old Hunstanton Beach in June 2023 and wondered what production team was in town, it was the crew of Mary & George shooting scenes.

What is the Mary & George TV show about?

What other movies is Nicholas Galitzine in?

This won’t be the first time—and we bet not the last time—Nicholas Galitzine plays a royal. He starred in the Amazon film Red, White & Royal Blue and played Prince Robert in 2021’s Cinderella

Is Mary & George based on a true story?

If you love historical dramas with a side of scandal, then you’ll love that Mary & George is inspired by a true story. Like in the show, the real-life Mary Villiers groomed her son to seduce King James VI and I. Where was Mary & George filmed?

Though Mary & George hasn’t hit our screens, Sky was kind enough to share Mary & George filming locations with the world before the show debuts. Here are a few filming locations for Mary & George in London and throughout England that you can visit by train

Old Hunstanton Beach

Closest station: King’s Lynn

Norfolk has some of the best beaches in Britain and Old Hunstanton Beach is no stranger to film crews shooting royal scenes. The Princess Diana historical drama Spencer was also filmed in the area.

Stirling Castle

Closest station: Stirling

What we believe is one of the best castles in all of Europe, Stirling Castle set the stage for a banquet scene in Mary & George. Its exterior also cosplayed as one of our favorite UK cities: Edinburgh

Ashridge Estate

Closest station: Berkhamsted

The gorgeous Ashridge Estate’s acreage was used for Mary & George’s hunting scenes. The estate is owned by the National Trust and is available to tour.

Dover Castle

Closest station: Dover Priory

A wonderful day trip from London, Dover Castle gets the distinguished honor of portraying the Tower of London in Mary & George

Knole

Closest station: Sevenoaks

Knole is another stunning National Trust gem showcased in the series, standing in for the interior shots of James’ palace.

Ham House and Garden

Closest station: St Margarets

Whereas some of the real-life locations weren’t practical for filming, the original London residence of George Villiers is nonexistent today. Ham House stood in as a substitute. Take the train one stop east to find the Ted Lasso filming locations in Richmond.

The Charterhouse

Closest station: Barbican (London Underground station)

The Charterhouse in London is open to tour, should you want to see where production faked a handful of locales including the London Palace, the King’s Banquet Hall, and the London Meat Market. Two or three blocks south, you’ll find St Bartholomew the Great, a medieval church also used in Mary & George for the royal coronation and other scenes.
