Eurostar Standard and Eurostar Plus tickets are now exchangeable fee-free up to one hour before your train is scheduled to depart. What's more, these tickets are now refundable up to 7 days before departure (fees apply)!

For exchanges, you'll pay the difference in fare if your new ticket is more expensive; if your new ticket is cheaper than the original, you won't be refunded the difference.

For more information, check out Eurostar's aftersales conditions.

How to get cheap Eurostar tickets

If you're after cheap Eurostar train tickets, we'll show you how you could bag yourself a bargain. By using one (or a combination) of the steps below, you could be on your way to more affordable train travel.

Look out for flash sales

Throughout the year Eurostar holds flash sales, giving you the opportunity to get a great deal. But these cheap tickets are limited and sell out quickly. Make sure you’re opted in to Trainline notifications, so you can be one of the first to find out! Also, if you've got a bit of flexibility about when you travel, check out the Eurostar Snap scheme—more info below!

Book in advance

Train tickets for the Eurostar usually go on sale around 6 months before the date of travel. Book in advance to make sure you get the cheapest options as those tend to sell out, leaving only the more expensive tickets.

Travel during Off-Peak periods

When traveling on the Eurostar, you can benefit from reduced fares by travelling at times of the day that are less busy. When searching for tickets, we'll display all available tickets, highlighting the cheapest ones.

Eurostar Snap tickets

Eurostar Snap is an offer by Eurostar allowing travelers to access last-minute discount fares for trains with spare capacity.

Snap fares are a cheap way of taking the Eurostar. Travelers submit the date that they want to travel, and Eurostar picks the time. Tickets can go for considerably less than their normal price! Snap fares are great for travelers that are not fussed about the time that they travel.

Can I travel on Eurostar with a Eurail Pass?

Guess what? You can take the Eurostar with a Eurail pass! Just a few extra steps…

  1. Buy your Eurail Pass
  2. Use the Eurail app or website to book your Eurostar reservation in advance and pay the reservation fee.

Note: Eurail pass-holder seats are subject to availability, so book as early as possible. If these seats are already sold out for your preferred train, you’ll need to buy a full-fare ticket.

Eurostar routes in mainland Europe only (red trains)

If you have an Eurail Pass and you want to travel on Eurostar’s red trains (on routes between Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Germany), you will need to purchase a Pass ticket.

Providing personal information before travel

From 2 April 2024, all passengers who buy a Eurostar ticket between Paris and London must provide certain information about their identity before departure:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Nationality
  • Type of document (passport in the vast majority of cases)
  • Passport or ID card number, as well as issue and expiry dates

Please note: because a passport is compulsory for travel to England, you will not receive your tickets without providing this information. There are only a few exceptions where an Identity Card is still authorized (British residents).

Eurostar check-in

If you’re traveling to or from London on the Eurostar, you’ll need to check-in before you board your train. Make sure you give yourself enough time!

On Eurostar journeys to or from London, you will need to pass through immigration and security checks before boarding your train.

At London St Pancras International, head to the Eurostar check-in gates in the middle of the main concourse of the station. You’ll first pass through ticket gates, where you’ll scan your ticket. Then you’ll go through airport-style security and bag checks, before passing through passport control.

The check-in gates close 30 mins before your train departs, so Eurostar recommends that customers in Eurostar Standard and Eurostar Plus classes arrive 90 minutes before your train is due to leave.

At Paris Gard du Nord for trains to London, head up the escalator to to Eurostar departures hall. First, you'll pass through the ticket gates, then passport control and finally security and bag checks.

The check-in gates close 30 mins before your train departs, so Eurostar recommends that customers in Eurostar Standard and Eurostar Plus classes arrive 90-120 minutes before your train is due to leave.

Take a look at our Eurostar check-in page for more information on check-in at other Eurostar stations.

The Chunnel

The Channel Tunnel provides a permanent link between the UK and France. Nicknamed the "Chunnel" (short for Channel Tunnel) this vital rail link runs from Folkestone, England to Calais, France.

The tunnel opened in 1994 and at 50.45km (31.34 miles) it is the longest underwater tunnel anywhere in the world.

Fun facts about the Chunnel

  1. There's more than one tunnel, there's actually three. Two for trains and one for service access.
  2. The two train tunnels are 24-feet in diameter with the northern tunnel taking passengers from England to France. Whilst the southern tunnel carries passengers from France to England.
  3. The rock removed during construction of the Chunnel was used to make Samphire Hoe Park, now a flourishing nature reserve.
  4. Chris Froome cycled through the service tunnel, completing the journey in just 55 minutes!
  5. At its deepest point the tunnel is 75m below the seabed.
  6. The average journey time through the Chunnel is 35 minutes.
  7. It cost £15 billion to build; the original budget was £3.6 billion.
  8.  During construction some 13,000 people were employed to build the tunnel.
  9. Way before the Chunnel was built, the first design for it was completed in 1802.
  10. Each year 26 million red roses are delivered through the Chunnel to the UK.

Can I exchange my Eurostar ticket?

If your plans change, your ticket can change too.

Eurostar Standard and Plus tickets are now exchangeable fee-free up to one hour before your train is scheduled to depart. What's more, these tickets are now refundable up to 7 days before departure!

For exchanges, you'll pay the difference in fare if your new ticket is more expensive; if your new ticket is cheaper than the original, you won't be refunded the difference.

Delays announced ahead of time
