Renfe-Avlo is Renfe's new high-speed long-distance train service operating on the Madrid to Barcelona-Figueres line. Avlo trains can travel up to 186 mph (300 km/h), all tickets are in Economy Class with assigned seats.

Onboard you can enjoy free WiFi access through the PlayRenfe platform, power sockets at each seat to charge phones and laptops, and vending machines with hot and cold drinks and snacks. The only ticket offered for Avlo services is called Básica (or Basic) and children under 14 years old can travel at a discounted fixed price but they must have a seat and a ticket.

Low-cost Avlo tickets from €7

You can now buy low-cost Avlo tickets from €7. Our website or app will help you compare ticket prices and check timetables of the different Avlo and AVE services. At Trainline, we connect directly to Renfe’s ticket inventory, so your train ticket will always be valid for travel if you book online with us.

Cheap Avlo tickets

The only rate offered on Avlo services is called Básica (or Basic) and tickets start from €7.

What's on board an Avlo train?

Food on board

Avlo trains offer a vending machine service with a wide range of hot and cold drinks and snacks.

Baggage

With your Avlo ticket you can carry 2 pieces of baggage: a carry-on piece of 36 x 27 x 25 cm and a cabin suitcase of 55 x 35 x 25 cm.

If you need it, you can add 1 additional piece of baggage with a maximum size of 85cm x 60cm x 35cm (or not exceeding 180cm in total) when purchasing your ticket for €10.

Once your purchase is made, it is not possible to add this extra piece of baggage. You can only add one additional piece of baggage directly at the Renfe counter or at the boarding gate, for an additional fee (between €15 and €30).

Pets

You can travel with your pet for only €10 ($11.01), provided that you have a small pet, such as a dog, cat, ferret or bird (not poultry). Your pet must not weigh more than 10 kg (22 lbs) and must travel inside a cage or carrier, which must not exceed dimensions of 60 x 35 x 35 cm (23.6" x 13.7" x 13.7").

Please note there is a maximum of 1 pet per person and all pets must always travel with their own pet ticket and not take up a seat. Guide and assistance dogs are allowed on the train free of charge.

Bikes

Only folding bikes and scooters are allowed on board, as long as they have the same dimensions as suitcases, i.e. 55 x 35 x 25 cm.

WiFi

On Avlo trains, you can enjoy free WiFi access through the PlayRenfe platform.

Power sockets

Power sockets are available at every seat, so you can charge your electronic devices whenever you want.

Which train stations will Avlo call at?

Madrid Atocha

Located in the city centre, Madrid Atocha train station is one of the most beautiful buildings of the Spanish capital. Built in the 19th century, it serves more than 18 million passengers every year.

The station has two entrances: the first one is for Media Distancia and Cercanías trains, while the second one, which is called Puerta de Atocha, is for most AVE and long-distance trains.

Barcelona Sants

Barcelona Sants is the second most important train station in Spain. Situated in the central Sants-Montjuic district, it was built at the end of the 1970s.

It consists of a ground floor, where the commercial area and the ticket offices are located, and a lower ground floor, from which you can access the platforms.

Zaragoza Delicias

Zaragoza Delicias train station is very close to the city centre and is one of the busiest stations in the country, receiving about 3 million passengers every year. Not only does this modern and stunning building function as a train station, but it also includes Zaragoza's main bus station, representing an important transport hub for the city.

Camp Tarragona

Camp Tarragona train station is a new building, inaugurated in 2006 and located between Perafort y La Secuita, about 11 kilometres north of Tarragona city. Its 8 platforms mainly serve medium and long-distance high-speed trains.

Who is Renfe Avlo for?

Thanks to the new Avlo train service, high-speed travel is open to families, young people, and other groups that want to save on train travel. The acting Minister of Public Works said "This high-quality, low-price service will democratise high speed", which is great for anyone travelling on a budget and wanting to explore some of Spain's largest cities.

Avlo will be Renfe's high-speed service with the highest passenger capacity, with 438 seats per train, 20% more seats than the current 112 series trains. Once the new service is extended, the new 106 series trains will be incorporated, with an even greater capacity of 581 seats per train.
