What is Peaky Blinders about?
Peaky Blinders follows Tommy Shelby, leader of the Peaky Blinders street gang, as he ascends the criminal underworld of Birmingham, England, in the years following World War One. Peaky Blinders ran for six seasons, first on the BBC then on Netflix. It stars Cillian Murphy as Thomas Shelby and also stars Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, Finn Cole, and Helen McCrory.
Where does Peaky Blinders take place?
Peaky Blinders takes place in Birmingham, England, just after World War One. The scenes are mostly set in the inner-city areas of Birmingham, like Shelby’s home of Small Heath. But just because it’s set in Birmingham, doesn’t mean it’s shot in Brum.
Where was Peaky Blinders filmed?
Much of Peaky Blinders was filmed in England’s northwest, primarily in the city of Liverpool. That’s right: despite being set in Birmingham, the majority of Peaky Blinders filming locations are actually located 100 miles north in Liverpool and Manchester. If you made a mistake and traveled to Birmingham, you can get between Birmingham North Street Station and Liverpool Lime Street by train in less than two hours.

Where is Tommy Shelby's mansion filmed?
Tommy Shelby’s mansion filming location is Arley Hall & Gardens in Northwich, Cheshire, about 25 miles east of Liverpool. Portions of this country estate stretch back to the 15th century, though the mansion itself was built in the 19th century. Walk around on a guided tour with your flat cap on if you want to feel like a Shelby or act a bit more humble by walking your dog around the gardens or taking the kids to the outdoor PlayZone. If you visit between March 8 and March 18, 2024, you'll catch a Peaky Blinders special exhibition, which will let you view the rooms used for filming and displays of costumes from the show.
Where is the real Peaky Blinders pub?
The real pub that inspired The Garrison Tavern is actually called The Garrison and is located on Garrison Lane in Birmingham. The rumor is that the real Peaky Blinders gang did drink at the pub, but there’s no hard truth to it. Don’t expect a spit-shined tourist spot if you visit: the real Peaky Blinders pub has fallen on hard times over the decades.

Scenes for the Garrison pub in Peaky Blinders were not filmed at the real Garrison pub in Birmingham. The interior scenes were shot in a studio lot in Manchester on a soundstage.

Formby Beach

This Liverpool beach was used as the setting for a showdown in Season 4 of Peaky Blinders between Alfie Solomons and Tommy Shelby.
Black Country Living Museum
Nearest station: Tipton
Many of the Peaky Blinders filming locations call Black Country Living Museum home. This open-air museum that welcomes tourists showcases over 200 years of local history and was used for Peaky Blinders scenes at the Canal Street bridge, the scrap metal yard belonging to Charlie Strong, and the St. James’ School.

Port Sunlight Village
Nearest stations: Bebington | Port Sunlight
Just south of Liverpool and easily accessible from the city by train, Port Sunlight is a gorgeous 19th-century village used for several Peaky Blinders filming locations. You'll most likely recognize it from the beautiful mock-Tudor house that portrays Aunt Polly's home.

Powis Street & Admiral Grove
Nearest station: Brunswick
Powis Street holds a little bit of fact and fiction for two groups of fans. The two streets of Powis Street and Admiral Grove in Liverpool were our first look at the Peaky Blinders faux Small Heath world which acted as Watery Lane. In real life, the childhood home of Ringo Starr is right around the corner.
St. George’s Hall
Nearest station: Liverpool Lime Street
No spoilers here: St. George’s Hall is a dazzling neoclassical building featured in other films like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Something not so fantastic happens here in Season 3, so find that out for yourself before visiting this Peaky Blinders filming location that also appeared in Season 6.

Stanley Dock
Nearest station: Liverpool Lime Street
Though the Garrison Tavern’s interior scenes were shot on a soundstage, the Stanley Dock’s walkways were used as the exterior street of the Garrison, as well as the setting for the battle in the Season 1 finale between Tommy Shelby and Billy Kimber.
