Netflix has another hit on their hands: The Diplomat.

This edge-of-your-seat thriller packs a lot of high-stakes political drama into eight episodes. Perfect for fans of House of Cards, The Americans, and Homeland, The Diplomat premiered in late-April 2023 yet is already hitting impressive Rotten Tomatoes numbers and has fans demanding a second season.

Old Royal Naval College, London

This UNESCO World Heritage Site in Greenwich is near loads of other historical locations like the National Maritime Museum, the Prime Meridian, and the Royal Observatory.

Regent’s Park is a sprawling greenspace featuring the London Zoo, Queen Mary’s Rose Gardens, an open-air theater, sports fields, and a boating lake.

Located in Regent’s Park, The Diplomat sets many scenes within Winfield House, where the real U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom lives.

Though the actual filming location used in the show for the U.S. Ambassador's residents is outside the city at Wrotham Park, you can stroll through Regent’s Park and see the real Winfield House.

Afterwards, you can explore the nearby neighbourhood of St. John's Wood, known for the iconic Beatles crosswalk and Abbey Road Studios.

The Diplomat follows Kate Wyler, played by The Americans' Keri Russell, as the new United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom. This high-stakes political thriller ups the drama as Wyler has to diffuse both international crises and a rocky marriage to her husband, Hal, a high-profile, as well as manipulative, political figure. 

Who is in The Diplomat on Netflix?

Keri Russell stars in the new Netflix series that also features other familiar faces. If you were wondering what Rufus Sewell was from (the character Hal Wyler), you may remember him as Jasper, the smug womanizing man who broke Kate Winslet’s heart in The Holiday. You’ll also recognize Michael McKean of Better Call Saul, Ato Essandoh of Chicago Med, and Pearl Mackie of Doctor Who.

Where is the current American embassy in London?

The current U.S. Embassy in London (the one seen in the show) is located at 33 Nine Elms Lane. Near Battersea Park, you can take the Northern Underground line to Nine Elms station. Then, afterward stop by the brand-new Battersea Power Station filled with lots of shops, cafes, restaurants, and bars.

Where was the previous U.S. embassy in London?

The former American Embassy was located at Grosvenor Square in Mayfair. Near Hyde Park, you can take the Elizabeth, Central, and Jubilee Underground lines to Bond Street station. There you’ll find a September 11th memorial garden, an American Eagle Squadron memorial, and statues of Presidents Regan, Eisenhower, and FDR. It’s currently being redeveloped into luxury apartments with hotel-style amenities like a spa, dining room, cinema, and more.

Which stately home is used in The Diplomat?

Wrotham Park in Hertfordshire is used as the stately home of the U.S. Ambassador. This estate has been used for filming of other Netflix series such as The Crown and Bridgerton.

Will there be a season two of the Diplomat?

Hot off the press! On May 1, Netflix confirmed The Diplomat will continue with a second season. “We had such a great time making The Diplomat. And it’s a thrill to see how much people are enjoying it,” says series creator Debora Cahn. Details on the release date of season two have yet to be confirmed, but we'll keep our dossier up-to-date with all the details as they become available.
