What is Paris Fashion Week?

Paris Fashion Week, known in French as Semaine de la mode de Paris, is a biannual fashion showcase established in 1973 by the Federation of Haute Couture and Fashion. Paris Fashion Week, one of the “Big Four” fashion weeks, ends on the heels of New York, London, and Milan, and is rightfully the grand finale to the month-long extravaganza.

When is Paris Fashion Week in 2024?

Brands are showing their women’s fall/winter 2024/2025 ready-to-wear collections between Feb. 26 and March 5, 2024.

What to expect at Paris Fashion Week 2024?

In addition to the crème de la crème of high-fashion shows by renowned houses like Christian Dior, Chanel and Saint Laurent, all eyes are on Alexander McQueen this season as newly appointed creative director Seán McGirr makes his debut for the iconic fashion house after Sarah Burton’s exit. At Chloé, German designer Chemena Kamali will also be making her debut at the French fashion house, succeeding Gabriela Hearst. Paris Fashion Week regulars on the calendar include Balmain, Balenciaga, Givenchy, Dries Van Noten, Isabel Marant, Valentino, Giambattista Valli, Rabanne, and many more.

Where does Paris Fashion Week take place?

Known for its rich French art, fashion, and culture, Paris hosts fashion week in locations all over the city, with most of the fashion shows, runways and presentations usually held at Carrousel du Louvre, an underground shopping mall located in the center of Paris.

Where to go in Paris for fashion week?

Like most of the Big Four fashion weeks, Paris shows are invite-only. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t tons of chic places to explore in the city during fashion week.

Espace Éphémère des Tuileries

During Paris Fashion Week, this temporary pop-up space in the Tuileries Garden accommodates fashion shows, presentations, and other fashion-forward events. It’s a short walk from Carrousel du Louvre, the central hub for fashion week events.

Louvre Museum

While you’re in the area, consider visiting the Louvre, one of the world's largest art museums. Enter via the glass pyramid, which is also the perfect place to capture your outfit of the day! The Louvre is also popular for fashion week shows, having hosted big brands, including the likes of Louis Vuitton.

Palais-Royal

This historic palace has a gorgeous garden to explore. The black-and-white columns in the courtyard have become a trendy backdrop for fashion influencers and celebrities for street-style photos.

Le Marais

The Marais neighborhood, which was formerly the city’s Jewish Quarter, is known today for its fashionable boutiques, art galleries, historic architecture, and gay bars. It’s a wonderful place to shop (or browse leisurely!) while soaking up Parisian style. Why not stay in the neighborhood at one of the best hotels in Marais?

Champs-Élysées

This iconic avenue is lined with luxury boutiques—including flagship stores for fashion labels and beauty brands, like French favorites Lacoste and Lancôme. This is one of the most famous places in Paris for high-end shopping and people-watching.

More shopping: luxury department stores

The Champs-Élysées hasn’t tired you out? You’d like to continue shopping until you actually drop? Head to Paris’ famed Galeries Lafayette and Le Bon Marché department stores. If window shopping is more your thing, you won’t be disappointed by the extravagant window displays.

Musée des Arts Décoratifs

Located in the Louvre, the enchanting Museum of Decorative Arts often hosts world-class fashion exhibitions, making it a must-visit during Paris Fashion Week.

Don’t miss: Fashion and Sports: From one Podium to Another, a special exhibition exploring the historic relationship between fashion and sport. The exhibition runs from September 20, 2023 to April 7, 2024.
