Taking the train from Paris to Lake Como may not be the quickest way to reach one of the jewels of the Italian Lake District, but it’s definitely the most stress-free and eco-friendly solution. Take the high-speed TGV Lyria train from Paris Gare de Lyon to Zurich or Basel and then hop on a Eurocity train to Como San Giovanni. From there, you can easily get a local bus to one of the quaint little villages surrounding Lake Como. Upgrade to TGV Lyria’s First Class (or Standard 1re) and enjoy more legroom and larger and more comfortable seats.
Once you reach Lake Como, enjoy the breath-taking view you get from the picturesque lakeside promenade and discover one of the surrounding villas – Villa Serbelloni and Villa Melzi are worth a visit with their famous botanical garden.
