The main train station in Zürich is Zürich Hauptbahnhof, also known as Zürich HB. It’s located in the center of the city, directly across from the Landesmuseum. It’s hard to miss: Zürich HB is the largest train station in Switzerland and one of the busiest in Europe.

Zürich Airport, also called Flughafen Zürich, has a railway station only a few footsteps away from Terminal B. It’s appropriately named Zürich Flughafen.

Zürich HB is an epicenter of shopping and dining, so much so that the shopping mall surrounding the station is known as ShopVille. Nearly 200 shops, restaurants, and other services fill the space. Where do we begin? Brasserie Federal has 100+ Swiss beers on tap to sip while you wait for your train. Zopf & Zöpfli has takeaway sandwiches you can snag if you’re running late for said train.
You’ll have your choice of supermarkets and cooperatives, too, if you want to mix up your own meal on the train. Pharmacies, book stores, shoe stores, clothing stores, toy stores, you name it, it’s probably in Zürich HB. And that includes an indoor scavenger hunt.
Restaurants near Zürich main train station
Should you venture outside of ShopVille-Zürich in search of grub, Didi’s Frieden on the other side of the Limmat River is a white tablecloth restaurant with one heck of a cordon bleu. Heading south into Old Town, you’ll see more than one set of golden arches if you need a taste of home. Walliser Kanne is what the Swiss consider a taste of home, and the James Joyce Irish restaurant, well, doesn’t a pint of Guinness always taste like home no matter where you are abroad?

Opposite the Zürich HB train station is the Swiss National Museum (Landesmuseum), making it the easiest attraction to visit near the main station. Meander through Old Town and you’ll find more fascination at the Urania-Sternwarte observatory, the Lindenhof plaza, Uhrenmuseum Beyer clock and watch museum. We encourage you to venture to the Münsterbrücke bridge so you can hit the Grossmünster and Fraumünster churches on either side.
