What’s the best area in Berlin to stay? That depends on what you dig and how you want to get down.

Berlin’s neighborhoods have a little something for every kind of traveler. Kreuzberg and Neukölln have young, artsy spirits not unlike the Brooklyn of days gone by. Charlottenburg is a little more polished, the type of place you may want to stay if you have kids or would like an early bedtime.

Here are a few of the best boutique hotels in Berlin’s neighborhoods not far from Berlin Hbf.

The best boutique hotels in Berlin, Germany

Hüttenpalast | Best for a unique place to lay your head

Closest station: U Hermannplatz

Want a glimpse at Neukölln’s off-kilter mindset? Then spend the night at Hüttenpalast in a caravan, or a wooden hut. All indoors, you’ll share a communal neighborhood with your neighbors should you want to mingle. Take the party outside to the quiet garden when the weather’s right.

Provocateur | Best for evocative yet refined style

Closest station: U Konstanzer Straße

Got an addiction to glamor? Easily seduced by style, both on and off the walls? Provocateur in the Wilmersdorf neighborhood wants you to begin a lifelong romance with its swanky suites, French-Chinese culinary creations, and a bar that may or may not transition into a burlesque show in the wee hours of the night.

Hotel Oderberger | Best for a day (and midnight) by the pool

Closest station: Eberswalder Straße

Fancy a midnight swim? Hotel Oderberger invites you to reserve their historic indoor swimming pool for a bit of private nighttime splashing with your partner. Built over a century ago, this Prenzlauer Berg hotel was a former public bathhouse and ensures that you’ll be in comfort whether in the water or between the sheets.

25hours Hotel Bikini | Best for a wild view

Closest station: U Wittenbergplatz

On a work trip and got a little monkey business on the agenda? 25hours Hotel Bikini has rooms looking into the Berlin Zoological Garden, which means waving to monkeys and elephants when you wake. Might we recommend getting the same view from the dry sauna or the rooftop terrace? Things may be tame at times, but we have confidence you’ll let a roar or two out.

The best hotels in Berlin Mitte

What is the coolest part of Berlin to stay in? We think it’s Mitte: literally named the ‘middle’ of Berlin.

It’s the center of Berlin, the main neighborhood that most visitors spend their time in. Tons of museums, Parliament, and Berlin Wall sites are among the many things to do in Mitte.

As for where to stay? These are a handful of cool boutique hotels in Berlin’s Mitte neighborhood.

Selina | Cool points for having an in-house music studio

Closest station: Weinmeisterstraße

Selina should ring a bell to travelers who’ve backpacked their way across South America. This hip hotel in Mitte has its own cinema room, music studio, yoga classes, and rooftop coworking area.

Honigmond Garden Boutique Hotel | Cool points for having a Mediterranean garden

Closest station: U Rosenthaler Platz

Think Garden of Eden, but with a cat that won’t steer you wrong. Honigmond’s Mitte location has a serene garden where you can rest your mind, body, and soul. And when you want to rest your head, one of its renovated coach houses from the 1880s will more than suffice.

Hotel Mani by Amano | Cool points for not trying to be cool

Closest station: U Rosenthaler Platz

Hotel Mani by Amano is that person at the bar who looks so effortlessly cool yet so genuinely nonchalant that you’re torn between admiring their mystique from afar and wanting to buy them a drink. This smooth Mitte hotel makes minimalism sexy, but if you have rich tastes, leave the slick hotel decor behind and head to Amano Lobby Bar for an elevated cocktail.

Monbijou Hotel | Cool points for a well-stocked library and fireside bar

Closest station: Hackescher Markt

Drink a beer, drink a mocktail, drink a water. Your drink of choice may be easy, but where you drink it in Monbijou Hotel won’t be as easy of a decision. The courtyard Bijou Bar takes nods from London’s cocktail scene. Thumb through well-read novels and tongue through well-aged spirits in the lounge bar, lingering until after midnight. Or head to the roof and take in Berlin’s sights with a drink in your hand and your foot tapping to the DJ’s mix.
