Strasbourg’s annual Christmas market is the oldest in the country, first popping up over 400 years ago. Since the 1570s, the city has embraced the holiday season, now stretching over 300 market stalls across the city. Though Place Kléber is the center of the market where you’ll find an ice skating rink beneath a gigantic Christmas tree, don’t be afraid to meander merrily away from the main square to find mulled wine, carolers, and more market stalls.

What is the best season to visit Strasbourg?

Christmas time is one of the best seasons to visit the city. Strasbourg, France’s weather in December gets rather cold, so pack appropriately. Expect 30s and 40s which warrant more layers than simply your favorite ugly Christmas sweater. Unfortunately, snow is seldom seen, but the lack of flurries does nothing to diminish the Christmas decorations adorning the city.

Getting from Paris to Strasbourg during the holiday season

Getting from Paris to Strasbourg’s Christmas market requires no magical reindeer or sleigh.
