What to know about House of Gucci’s most iconic scenes.

What is House of Gucci about?

House of Gucci is about love, power, and betrayal. Adam Driver stars as Maurizio Gucci of the iconic Gucci fashion house. His wife Patrizia Regianni, played by Lady Gaga, stirs up bad blood within the Gucci family and eventually with Maurizio himself — leading to deadly consequences.

Is House of Gucci a true story?

Yes, House of Gucci is based on the true story of the murder of Maurizio Gucci. The screenplay itself is based on the book House of Gucci written by Sara Gay Forden.

Is House of Gucci filmed in Italy?

Yes, House of Gucci was filmed in Italy, but there are a few liberties taken when it comes to where the film was set and where the real-life events took place. For example, the assassination of Maurizio Gucci did happen, but it occurred outside of his offices in Milan, not in the faux-Milan streets that the city of Rome provided as a set piece.

Where was House of Gucci filmed?

House of Gucci was filmed throughout Italy. Some of our favorite House of Gucci movie locations include Gressoney Saint-Jean, Lake Como, and Milan — all reachable by train. We love them not only for their beauty, but because they’re easily accessible from Florence and Rome via train.

Where is the Gucci mansion located?

In the House of Gucci movie, Aldo Gucci’s mansion is set in Villa Balbiano. It’s a private home on the shores of Lake Como with its own boathouse, pier, and outdoor swimming pool. If you want to see a real home owned by the Gucci family, a two-villa property with 12 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms that Aldo Gucci built is located in northwestern Rome near the UAE Embassy.

What ski resort was House of Gucci filmed in?

The House of Gucci movie sets its skiing scenes in St Moritz, but that’s not where the film hit the slopes. Instead, production made tracks in the snow of Gressoney Saint-Jean, which is due south of Matterhorn in Italy’s Aosta Valley.

Villa Balbiano

Closest station: Como S. Giovani

Villa Balbiano in the Lombardy region of Lake Como is as stunning in person as it looks on the silver screen. This private abode is available as a wedding venue, but should you visit the commune of Ossuccio for non-nuptial reasons, you can at very least admire its beauty from the water.

Villa Necchi-Campiglio

Closest station: Palestro (Milan metro)

Villa Necchi-Campiglio staged itself as Rudolfo Gucci’s home. When the cameras are gone, Villa Necchi-Campiglio is an art museum in Milan.

Santa Maria in Portico

Closest station: Colosseo (Rome metro)

The House of Gucci wedding venue is Chiesa di Santa Maria in Portico in Campitelli. You’ll see it referred to as both Santa Maria in Campitelli and Santa Maria in Portico. Visit Rome and you might also call it one of the most beautiful Eternal City churches near Rome’s Campidoglio.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

Closest station: Duomo (Milan metro)

Milan’s stunning shopping arcade gets a nod in House of Gucci when Maurizio and Patrizia spend the day around the city; a scene you can easily create with a shopping trip while in town for Milan Fashion Week

Gressoney Saint-Jean

Closest station: Candelo

Gressoney Saint-Jean was a dreamy St Moritz stand-in for the House of Gucci ski scenes. You’ll need to take a bus from the train station, but slow travel is well worth the views here, especially as a great stopover during an Italian lake district tour

Movies like House of Gucci remind us why we love Italy so much: fashion forward cities, luxury lakeside getaways, and ritzy backdrops no matter if you’re standing in a church, street corner, or hillside.
