So, you’ve finished reading 50 Shades of Grey, watched Book Club, and now you’re moving onto The Alchemist and Book Club: The Next Chapter

A long day spent with a novel in hand and a movie on the TV sounds lovely… but it could be even better if you read and watch in Italy

Book Club 2: The Next Chapter’s Italian production

Everything you need to know about Book Club 2’s filming locations in Italy.

Is this the movie about four ladies in Italy?

Yes! Book Club: The Next Chapter sees Hollywood’s legendary female leads take a whirlwind trip through Italy's iconic cities.

Who stars in Book Club 2?

Book Club: The Next Chapter stars Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen. They’re joined by male actors of equal esteem: Andy García, Don Johnson, Craig T. Nelson, and Giancarlo Giannini.

Where is Book Club 2 filmed?

Book Club: The Next Chapter had the enviable task of filming in Italy. Don’t think they just sat around sipping Peronis either; the cast and crew had to haul themselves between Venice and Rome, which is quite difficult when you consider how they must have been weighed down by dozens of pasta dinners. However, those Tuscany scenes weren’t filmed near Florence; they used Castello della Castelluccia near Rome.

If you’re planning a trip to see the Book Club 2 filming locations, using Italy’s extensive train network is the best way to do it. These train station guides will help you get oriented:

What hotel was in Venice in Book Club 2?

The Palazzo Mardini was the hotel in Venice in Book Club 2. That name won’t come up when you search for it, but Book Club: The Next Chapter used two real hotels to create it: Hotel Danieli in Venice for the interiors and the Grand Plaza Hotel in Rome for the exterior shots.

Is there going to be a Book Club 3?

Book Club 3 has not been confirmed, but that doesn’t mean that the ink has dried and this story is over. No spoilers here, but Book Club: The Next Chapter ended with potential story threads for a trilogy, should the writers put pen to paper. The cast thinks Book Club 3 should happen; they even joked about setting it at the Burning Man festival.

Where was Book Club filmed?

The first Book Club was filmed in Arizona, but there are plenty of Book Club 2 filming locations in Europe that you can get to via train.

Finding the Venice filming locations for Book Club 2

Stazione di Venezia Santa Lucia

Closest station: Venezia Santa Lucia

In a city known for its water taxis, we always love it when a Venice train station gets a shout-out on the silver screen. Like in the movie, you step out of the train station and get a wonderful view of the Grand Canal.

The Grand Canal

Closest station: Venezia Santa Lucia

Calling the Grand Canal simply “grand” is an understatement. It’s the focal point for most Venice adventures and an obvious inclusion in Book Club 2 and nearly every other movie filmed in Venice.

Hotel Danieli

Closest station: Venezia Santa Lucia

The Book Club: The Next Chapter Venice hotel is the Hotel Danieli, at least when it comes to the interior. Splurge on this dazzling hotel in Venice, and when you make it to Rome, choose the Grand Plaza Hotel if you want to see the exterior used for the Book Club: The Next Chapter Venice hotel.

Book Club: The Next Chapter Rome filming locations

Where to find Book Club: The Next Chapter’s filming locations from the moment you land in Rome.

Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport

Closest station: Rome-Fiumicino

If you and your gal pals are planning a trip to Italy, Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport will welcome you as it did the Book Club. Also simply known as Rome Fiumicino, the airport has an express train that runs directly to the centrally located Roma Termini train station in just 30 minutes.

Via dei Coronari

Closest station: Spagna (Rome Metro)

Should you also be visiting Rome for a surprise wedding, you can stroll the shops along Via dei Coronari like the ladies did. It’s located near Piazza Navona, another popular Rome filming location.

Castello della Castelluccia

Closest station: La Giustiniana

The good news is that you can have your own impromptu wedding (or profess your love while opting out of matrimony) at Castello della Castelluccia. The one caveat is that it won’t be in Tuscany. The Castello della Castelluccia is located just north of Rome and was chosen for its hillside that resembles the Tuscan countryside.

Write your own adventure in Italy by train

Like Sharon said, “Life is what you make of it, so do something” — like finally planning that Italian vacation you’ve always dreamed of. Don’t try to hitchhike to Tuscany; take the train.

Italy’s trains connect you from Venice to Rome to Florence in a matter of hours. Amenities like free WiFi mean you can stream both Book Club films, and relaxed luggage requirements mean avoiding airline checked baggage prices. And perhaps also avoid giving your bags to strangers on the train like the ladies did.
