Lena Khokhlova

UK and EU travel writer

Born in a tiny Russian town on the Volga river with a name trickier to pronounce than Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch in Wales, Lena now calls the enchanting city of Edinburgh home. She’s crafted content for the likes of Skyscanner, Microsoft, and Forbes and was a WFH aficionado long before the infamous virus hit.

Lena passionately runs Maker Stations, an indie publication that dives into the joys and quirks of remote working, mindful productivity, and designing desk setups. Her feline coworkers, Tesla (named after the man who ‘invented the 20th century’) and Shoegaze (named after Lena’s favorite music genre), serve as the VP of Home Office Aesthetics and the Chief Distraction Officer (CDO) respectively.

Lena loves reading, hiking, and exploring the world. She roamed the W Trek in Patagonia and tasted fugu in Osaka, but has the softest spot for Neapolitan pizza and cozying up with a book by the window.

Favorite train trip

Of all the tracks Lena’s traversed, the West Highland Line in Scotland has a reserved seat in her heart. It’s where the magic of the Hogwarts Express meets Loch Lomond’s serenity, framed by heather-filled moors and majestic mountains. Air an rathad! (Scottish Gaelic for ‘On the road!’ or ‘Let’s go!’)
