If you stitched together scenes from the same day, each year, what kind of story would it create?

That’s what Netflix’s new series One Day will unravel.

Starring Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod, One Day revisits its characters on the same day of each year after a chance meeting. As the years pass, tears of sorrow, love, and happiness follow as they wait to discover whether their relationship is written in the stars or simply just a one-day fling.

Netflix’s One Day: everything to know about the new series

Dropping on Netflix on February 8th, 2024, One Day was filmed between Edinburgh and London. Here’s what we know about the new limited series.

What is One Day about?

Netflix’s One Day is a 14-episode limited series following between Dex and Em, two coeds who met the night they graduated from college and went their separate ways. The series fast-forwards to the same date of the following years, giving one-day glimpses into whether Dex and Em are together, apart, happy, or heartbroken.

Is One Day based on a true story?

In a poetic sense, yes. The author of One Day confessed that this story was based on a two-decade love affair kept close to his heart, but not with a woman. Or a man, for that matter. It is about his relationship with the city of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Who is in One Day?

Netflix’s One Day features a lot of familiar faces that you’ve seen in other TV and movies with filming locations around Europe. Ambika Mod, of This Is Going to Hurt, plays Emma and Leo Woodall, the suspiciously charming Jack in The White Lotus, plays Dexter. They’re joined by Essie Davis (The White Princess), Tim McInnerny (Notting Hill), Jonny Weldon (House of the Dragon), Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark), and Toby Stephens (Die Another Day).

Where can you watch One Day?

One Day is a Netflix original mini-series, so it will stream exclusively on the streamer. That’s great news: with most UK trains offering free Wifi as a standard amenity, you can watch One Day as you ride the rails to the One Day filming locations in London and Edinburgh.

Is One Day a remake?

Sort of. Netflix’s One Day is a brand-new mini-series, but back in 2011, Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess starred in a full-length feature film version of One Day, both based on the One Day book by David Nicholls.

Where was One Day filmed in Edinburgh?

As we await the launch of the series, we at least know one location of where One Day was filmed in Edinburgh: the Old College in the University of Edinburgh. Follow South Bridge south from Edinburgh Waverley and you’ll find the uni where Dex and Em meet for the first time. Production was also spotted around Old Town and the West End.

While you’re at it, you can also find filming locations from the 2011 film of One Day in Edinburgh including Arthur’s Seat, Warriston’s Close, and Moray Place.

There are dozens of movies set in Edinburgh and filmed on location, including big-budget blockbusters like Avengers: Infinity War, Netflix original movies like A Castle for Christmas, and other page-to-screen works like Trainspotting.
