Chappel & Wakes Colne station in Wakes Colne, Essex was opened in 1849 under its original named Chappel before being renamed Chappel and Wakes Colne in October 1914. Now managed by Greater Anglia the Gainsborough line connects Sudbury to Marks Tey where onward journeys to Colchester, London and Ipswich are serviced by Greater Anglia's mainline services.

One of the most stunning features of the Gainsborough line is the viaduct at Chappel. With 32 arches it was the longest viaduct on the old Great Eastern Railway line and has some of the best views over the local countryside. The viaduct is also believed to be the second largest brick structure in the UK, beaten only by the Stockport Viaduct.

The station is also home to the East Anglia Railway Museum, which runs a number of events throughout the year for both steam and diesel enthusiasts.
