About Olympic Stadium

The Olympic Stadium, the centrepiece of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, was of course built for the London Olympics in 2012. Some of the most iconic moments of the games took place here, including Super Saturday, when Jessica Ennis, Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford all won gold medals for Great Britain over the course of 44 heady minutes. Since the games, the stadium has been developed to become the home of West Ham United FC from 2016.
Aside from hosting West Ham United's home fixtures, the Olympic Stadium is also the home of British Athletics and will host the IAAF World Athletics Championships in 2017. Although the capacity for the Olympics was 80,000, the redeveloped stadium has a capacity of 54,000. This will be a massive increase for West Ham United, and should make tickets reasonable easy - if not cheap - to get hold of.
Aside from events in the stadium, a good way to take a look at the venue is via the nearby ArcelorMittal Orbit observation tower, which offers fine views across the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the surrounding area, as well as across the rest of the London skyline.
