Trains to Glasgow Prestwick Airport
Glasgow Prestwick Airport is the only airport in the country with a dedicated train station, and if you’re travelling from Glasgow, you can travel straight from city centre to the check-in desk (with a short walk along a covered walkway from the station) in just over 45 minutes. There are three trains an hour in both directions between Prestwick International Airport station and Glasgow Central, and six direct trains per day connecting the airport with Edinburgh Waverley.
About Glasgow Prestwick Airport
Glasgow Prestwick is the home of Ryanair in Scotland. The budget airline is based at the airport and operates all 16 routes to sunny destinations in southern Europe. And there’s a great deal on train travel which makes getting away for a budget break from Glasgow Prestwick an even easier option. If you’re travelling to or from the airport by train, you’ll get a 50% discount on the standard fare to any station in Scotland. If you’ve got a bit of time to take it easy before your flight, grab a snack from the Food Village or head for the family-friendly Elvis Bar.
See if you can spot the plaque there which commemorates what was, as legend has it, the only time Elvis ever set foot on British soil when the army transport plane taking him and other troops home from Germany stopped en route to refuel in 1960. You get two hours’ free wi-fi while you’re in the airport, and for a bit of retail therapy, there’s a fully stocked Nuance Duty Free shop. Passengers travelling with kids should make a beeline for the free Play Zone next to the Food Village.
