The station serves the area of Woodsmoor, Stockport and offers services to stations including Manchester Piccadilly, Buxton, and Hazel Grove. Monday to Saturday three trains are available per hour en route to Manchester Piccadilly, this service drops to two services per hour on a Sunday. The fastest journey time for this route is 16 minutes. The spa town of Buxton is around a 40-minute journey from Woodsmoor this service arrives hourly from Monday to Sunday.

The station offers step-free access onto platform 1, but platform 2 is only accessible via steps leading to the platform. Entrance to the platforms is via Moorland Road.
