Newquay railway station sits opposite the town's main beach and is just a two-minute walk from the town centre. It was only in 1876 that a passenger train was introduced to the town – up until that point, horse-drawn rail carriages delivered goods and industrial equipment. Rebuilt in 1905 and enlarged throughout the 1900s, the welcoming modern station handles mostly local traffic in the off-season, plus direct trains to London Paddington in the summer months.

Newquay is at the end of the Atlantic Coast Line. Talk about saving the best until last. After trundling through the Luxulyan Valley and over Goss Moor, visitors find themselves looking out an amazing ocean view, which is the ideal way to enter one of Cornwall's most vibrant coastal towns. Newquay is the undisputed surf capital of the UK, with sandy beaches at every turn, waves that are the envy of Europe and even palm trees in the station's forecourt.
