Leighton Buzzard station serves both the town that it is named after as well the neighbouring town of Linslade, where the station is actually located. The London and Birmingham Railway opened a station at Leighton in 1838, and the current station buildings date back to 1958, just five years before the Great Train Robbery took place a little way down the line to the south. Trains to Leighton Buzzard include services to/from Birmingham New Street, London Euston, Milton Keynes and South Croydon. The area between the station and the Grand Union Canal and River Ouzl is the main commercial area of Linslade. The 15-minute walk to Leighton Buzzard town centre is through Linslade along Old Road, across the canal and river, to the Market Square and High Street and their collection of shops and pubs. To the south of the town centre is the Leighton Buzzard Railway, a narrow gauge heritage railway.
