Gordon Hill is a north London station in the borough of Enfield, in Travelcard Zone 5. It's a stop for trains on the Hertford Loop Line, taking local commuters to Moorgate and London King's Cross and offering northbound services to Hertford. The station is relatively modern, having opened in 1910 - its name refers to a nearby road that was once home to the 18th century mansion Gordon House, but the mansion was demolished in 1860, making way for residential development and the arrival of rail.
Today, the area is best known for St George's RC primary school, regarded as one of the best state schools in the capital. Local independent shops can be found on Lavender Hill and Lancaster Road. Ghost hunters will want to make a beeline for The Rose and Crown pub on Clay Hill - it was once owned by the grandparents of highwayman Dick Turpin, who often used it as a hideout. Legend says his ghost haunts the building...
