Gomshall train station opened in August 1849, and was first known as Gomshall and Shere Heath station. It was renamed a few more times over the years until it was given its current simplified name as Gomshall station in 1980. The station serves both Gomshall village and Shere village, located in the borough of Guildford in Surrey. It’s located close to the Abinger Roughs and Netley Park, an area of grassland and woodland part of the National Trust popular with campers and dog walkers.

The station and all services are operated by Great Western Railway and run on the North Downs Line. At peak times, there are hourly trains calling at busier Surrey stations such as Guildford, Redhill, Reading and Reigate from Gomshall station. These are reduced to two-hourly services during off-peak times. Since 1967, there hasn’t been any staff at Gomshall train station. There are two staggered platforms which can fit a three-coach train each.
