Cardiff Queen Street train station is one of two serving the city centre area of the Welsh capital. It is situated near the end of Queen Street, a short walk from the city centre shopping area, including the Capitol Centre and St David’s, and Cardiff’s New Theatre.

Cardiff Queen Street station is the second busiest train station in Wales; the first is the bigger Cardiff Central. There are five platforms at Cardiff Queen Street, connected by a subway under the lines with lifts and steps up to the platforms. The station is staffed and there are ticket machines, toilets and a coffee shop and newsagents on site.

A station has existed on this site since 1840. Crockherbtown station was part of the Taff Vale Railway and stood here until 1887, when it was rebuilt and renamed Cardiff Queen Street. Major renovations in 1907, 1973 and 2014 have seen the original frontage and roof replaced. Today, Cardiff Queen Street station has five platforms and is served by trains on the Valley Lines network and the Cardiff Bay line.

Twelve trains in each direction, and an extra five to Cardiff Bay, depart hourly from Cardiff Queen Street on weekdays and Saturdays. The journey to Cardiff Bay takes just 4 minutes. Direct trains to Merthyr Tydfil take 1 hour and 1 minute and services to Barry Island have a fastest journey time of 27 minutes.
