In West Yorkshire, Brighouse station, on the Caldervale Line and the Huddersfield Line, was first opened in 1840 but was closed for thirty years from 1970. Since its reopening in 2000, passenger numbers have increased year on year, with additional services to Manchester Victoria and London Kings Cross being added in 2008 and 2010 respectively, and it has become an important commuter station. The average journey time to Leeds is 35 minutes via Dewsbury and 50 minutes via Halifax. It's just over an hour to Manchester and just under three hours direct to London.
Recently rejuvenated with its old mills now desirable apartments, Brighouse is the original home to The Brighouse and Rastrick brass band, long considered the best brass band in the world. The centre of town, about ten minutes' walk from the station or seven minutes by bus, has all the local amenities you'd expect.
